I have learned that before the first digital camera they had box cameras sort of like the pinhole camera i made. They were dark inside and only let light in for an amount of time.Whatever it was that the photographer was talking a picture of, had to stay very still. Any movement would ruin the photo. It could take as long as three hours for one photo. Could you imagine sitting in one spot for three hours and not moving? Just for a self image. How crazy is that? I'm thankful for digital cameras although those old photos were really beautiful pieces of art.
This is one camera that Louis Daguerre made. A "Daguerreotype".

Pinhole Cameras
This week we've been working on making our pinhole cameras and taking pictures with them. I have never seen a camera like this before my photography class. They are pringles cans with a tiny hole cut into them. How they work is you open a shutter to let light go into the can for a good amount of time (there is special photo paper in the can), then you close the shutter and go into the black room to develop the photos. We had to spray paint the inside of the can black so that the siver color of the can wouldnt conflict with the photo we were trying to create. The shutter was used for letting light in & blocking light out. The images that will come out of this camera are negative photos. Which mean the part of the photo that you expect to be black is actually going to be white. And the parts you expect to be white will actually turn out black. And This was a really fun camera to make and i was impressed with the photos that came out of them. Pictures will be posted soon!
